New Investigator Awards

ISEH recognizes the need for the continual stimulation of new ideas and exciting avenues of investigation within the hematology and stem cell fields.

Our society takes great pride in supporting the work of young scientists who submit cutting-edge abstracts for discussion at the ISEH Annual Meeting. To this end, the ISEH Program Committee each year selects the six highest ranked abstracts (three graduate/PhD students and three postdoctoral fellows) to present a 10-minute presentation along with three minutes of Q&A. Presenters will be reviewed by anonymous panel of judges on the following criteria:

Presentation of scientific topic
Q&A response
Overall presentation

Each participant receives an ISEH award, seen below, along with a cash prize.

Second prize - George Brecher Award

George Brecher Award
2nd Place Post-doc Award

Major contributor to the laboratory practice of hematology, including the automated analysis of blood cells and the use of computers to compile data. Demonstrated that a single stem cell can not only regenerate the whole hematopoietic system but can also make its own copies that can be further transplanted

Third prize - Christa Muller-Sieburg Award

Christa Muller-Sieburg Award
3rd Place Post-doc Award

First in the world to prospectively purify hematopoietic stem cells. Demonstrated biased differentiation behavior of individual stem cell clones, sparking an entire new field of research
